Bakblade 2.0 is one of those DIY tools that has gained massive admiration, support and demand from the back shaving community.

The different versions and interpretations by the brand are developed to satisfy consumer needs and it seems Bakblade is doing a great job at that!

In my Bakblade 2.0 review, I’ll be dissecting this uniquely-designed back shaver, checking how it feels to apply in real life and identify if there’s any weak points.

So, buckle up and prepare your back for this swift discussion, and your back shaving routine after this article might change forever!

“Bakblade 2.0 is engineered carefully with an arched handle and blade angle in such a way that they trim up close to the skin. It’s safer than most back shavers who utilize such blade designs and convenient to use in many ways – Bakblade has my approval!”

Unboxing the Bakblade 2.0 Back Shaver

Bakblade 2.0 doesn’t arrive inside a box, rather placed within a transparent, plastic holder that’s shaped perfectly to accommodate the shaver.

It’s placed within the crevice with its handle folded. I think it’ll remain safe unless excessive pressure is applied – mine arrived in one piece and fully functioning.

Once you remove the back shaver from this holder, the holder loses its ability to relock itself in case you wish to re-use the holder.

I simply keep mine stashed inside the holder – if you have OCD, you can try sealing the end with a tiny piece of tape during storage.

What’s Inside the Box: Bakblade 2.0 Shaver, 2 Blade Cartridges Attached, 2 Spare Blade Cartridges, User Manual.

Bakblade 2.0 Back Shaver : Standout Features

Here are the features that stand out for the Bakblade 2.0 back shaver – going through this section will help you understand its capabilities.

Handle Grip & Maneuverability

There’s nothing special about the gripping area of the handle, except for the finger-shaped crevices to ensure a firm grip.

Bakblade 2.0 Grip 1

It’s acceptable in my opinion, not too bulky yet not too flimsy. It manages to remain stuck to my fingers even if I’m shaving my back under the shower.

The balance is quite good, you have the authority of balance despite the length of the handle. I reckon the arched handle design contributes to this, kudos to the architect.

18” Unfolded Reach

Usually the Bakblade handle remains folded unless you start using it. There’s an unlock button that you need to press to fully unfold the device to its maximum extent.

Bakblade 2.0 Handle 1

It’s able to reach 18 inches once fully unfolded – around the standard length for a back shaver. If you’re a big dude with back hair around the lower half of your spine, you might have to adjust your angles.

Otherwise, it works effectively to reach every bit of hair on the top half of your back. Due to the design principles, it’s not a valid tool for manscaping your chest.

Seemingly Durable Build Quality

I didn’t really expect much from a DIY tool, but Bakblade 2 has indeed surprised me with its durability so far.

It’s not prone to breakage and the hinges remain firm even after applying solid pressure – that’s definitely a positive aspect for this device.

In terms of the blade, the durability depends on your back shaving frequency, hair texture and coarseness. On average, each blade lasts for around 5-7 full shaving sessions.

Average Weight Class

The weight class of 6.0 ounces speaks of the build material and how much strain it’s going to cause your arm in case of longer grooming sessions.

Bakblade 2.0 Weight

6 ounces is actually average in the back shaving category, although there are lighter tools like BRO Shaver 3.0 in that regard.

Such weight makes for easy maneuverability and great portability, rendering the Bakblade 2.0 a travel-friendly tool for grooming enthusiasts who roam frequently.

3.0” Wide Sharp, Stainless Steel Blades

When it comes to the blade unit, you’ll notice that it’s a cartridge system uniquely designed by Bakblade and there’s no aftermarket solution for it.

Bakblade 2.0 Blade Head

Each blade is placed between guard teeth and the entire cartridge must be replaced in case of dull, worn out blades. Bakblade calls it DryGlide safety blades, vowing to prevent bumps or nicks.

The 3” inch width feels sufficient for efficiency, although you might have to apply additional glides to cover your entire back region.

Stackable Cartridge System

Bakblade 2.0 has two slots to host the blade cartridges and you can stack two at the same time to enhance efficiency.

Bakblade 2.0 Blade Cartridge 1

Two blade stacking is effective for individuals who have the back of an ape – such flexibility is indeed a welcome one, although it’s going to pile up on your replacement cost.

You’ll already have two blades attached to the system with two more as spare. Attaching and detaching is straightforward, employing a sliding mechanism for swift alterations.

Guide Teeth for Safety

Each blade cartridge seems safe despite the actual blade resembling one that of a safety blade, wider than regular.

Bakblade 2.0 Guards

The guide teeth guide your back hair into the blades more effortlessly while keeping your skin safe for the most part.

However, if you rush the process or glide at awkward angles, you might still end up cutting yourself. So, it’s better to place the shaver at the suggested angle for safer outcomes.

What I Like

  • Foldable, durable and grippy handle
  • Blade cartridges are wide and relatively safer
  • Stackable blades enhance efficiency

What Could be Better

  • Costly replacement blades

My Experience with Bakblade 2.0 Back Shaver

Since I have used the Bakblade shaver 2.0 first-hand, let me share my experience of using it – whether there were any cuts or not.

Shaving Closeness

It shaves as expected – down to the root of each hair strand to generate the closest possible outcome, as if someone else has carefully done it for you.

Bakblade 2.0 Blade Head 2

However, you must get your angles right to get it to work as expected, otherwise a few unshaved patches might get left behind.

In my opinion, dry shaves have proven to be generating a closer outcome than wet, it comes at the cost of comfort – more on that later.

Skin Safety

This is a valid concern for many as skin safety seems to be the most overlooked aspect when it comes to back shavers like this.

Bakblade 2.0 Blade Guards 2

I’m pleased with how much safety the Bakblade 2.0 guarantees, especially if you attach two blade cartridges at the same time.

Having skin redness or even a few minor cuts is something you cannot avoid but there won’t be any bleeding or ingrown hair – that’s still better than 90% of the back shavers out on the market!

Efficiency of Blade Cartridges

With two blade cartridges, the efficiency definitely increases. Still, if you’re an infrequent groomer, you might have to clean out the blade a few times during the shave.

Bakblade 2.0 Blade Cartridges 2

For shorter back hair, unclogging the blades doesn’t become necessary on a regular basis. For my case, I have to unclog my blade just once to complete the session within 10 minutes.

Short and precise strokes have provided me with the most convenient outcomes, leaving little to no unshaved patches. You can still check for it in front of a mirror to make things smooth like a baby’s bum.

Wet Shaving

Shower shaving is definitely a common approach many groomers prefer to take in case of back shaving, Bakblade 2.0 seems to be a master of it.

This takes care of your back hair and offers additional comfort on your skin with the cold water soothing your irritated skin.

That said, it slows down the process since you’ll have to frequently rinse the blade to prevent clogging. It’s the cost of comfort you must pay.

In some cases, I’ve heard that wet shaves are not as close as dry. However, applying shaving lotion can drastically alter the scenario.

Cleaning & Maintenance

There are two ways to clean the Bakblade 2.0 – one is using a cleaning brush and some disinfectant to mop the blades with a cloth rag.

Bakblade 2.0 Cleaning

The other method would be to rinse the blade under running water. For a thorough cleaning, you ought to remove the cartridges so that the water reaches every nook and crannies.

I urge you to clean your blades and handle after each shaving session to protect your back from unintended skin infection or bacterial growth.

How I Tested the Bakblade 2.0 Back Shaver?

From the moment I obtained the Bakblade 2.0, I began testing its capabilities by using it for different sorts of back shaving.

For instance, using two cartridges rather than one seems to crank up the shaving speed. Dry shaves have proven to be more efficient in my case, your scenario might not be the same.

Other than that, I’ve measured every aspect of length, width and durability personally. Since it’s a folded design, I had to make sure it has the integrity for extensive pressure and balance.

All things considered, the Bakblade 2.0 has checked off all the boxes of requirements and I can certainly recommend it to back shaving enthusiasts across different back hair growth patterns.

What I Like

  • Closest possible result by a self-use back shaver
  • More efficient with two cartridges used in dry conditions
  • Wet shaves tend to offer greater skin comfort

What Could be Better

  • There’s still chance to irritate or even cut your skin, even though it’s very minimum

Who is Bakblade 2.0 Back Shaver For?

Bakblade 2.0 is for those who do not mind spending a little extra to ensure smooth results within limited time and minimal effort.

Attaching two cartridges at once seems like the most effective approach, although it’s going to add to your replacement cost in the long run.

Otherwise, those with fine hair can employ one cartridge at a time and get away with fine outcomes.

But you must remember that there’s no scope for manual blade replacement and have to rely on Bakblade for the refill.

Bakblade 2 vs Bakblade 3 Debate: Should You Upgrade?

Bakblade 2 vs 3

This section features the two generations of Bakblade in a side by side argument: Bakblade 3 vs 2 – in order to let you know if you should upgrade from your existing tool.

Feature Bakblade 2.0 Bakblade 3.0
Arm Reach 18” 23”
Blade Width 3.0 Inches 3.0 Inches
Motor No No
Detachable Arm Foldable Foldable
Blade Capacity 2 3
Cutting Length Adjustment No No
Exfoliation Brush No Yes

With similar design principles, Bakblade 3.0 has brought in some upgrades. Major portion of the similarities are around the same blade cartridges and the foldable aspect of the handle, and everything else seems different!

Let’s start with the arm. Bakblade 3.0 has gone for a less arched and more minimal arm – probably in hopes of reaching the difficult spots with much ease.

The arm length is 23” – a 5” improvement over their previous model Bakblade 2.0. Also, the arm feels much more robust and precise.

Another improvement in the Bakblade 3.0 design is the capacity of using 3 blade cartridges at the same time, enhancing efficiency at the cost of extra expense.

It’s going to come in handy for those with dense and textured back hair. Others can utilize one or two slots with blades.

Additionally, the Bakblade 3.0 has a built-in exfoliation brush at the back. It helps you prepare your back for the following harsh scrubbing actions using the blades.

The price difference between Bakblade 2.0 and Bakblade 3.0 is quite significant in my opinion. One silver lining is that the blade cartridges are interchangeable, thus the refill cost remains the same.

Verdict: Bakblade 3.0 is the better efficient tool with a stern, longer handle. It’s for men who are big and have the obligation of shaving back hair toward the middle or lower half central regions.

On the other hand, Bakblade 2.0 is more cost-efficient as opposed to the Bakblade 3.0 – both in terms of immediate purchase and in the long run. I’d recommend if you have an average arm length, finer hair with less texture.

FAQ

This FAQ section will enhance your knowledge from the Bakblade 2 review and take your game to a whole new level!

Q: Do I need shaving cream to use the Bakblade 2.0?

Ans: You don’t necessarily have to use shaving cream to use the Bakblade 2.0. This tool is fully capable of running without any additional lotion or to be used under the shower. But if you’re asking if it’s something possible, then yes – you definitely have the freedom to add shaving cream into the mix.

Q: Is the Bakblade 2.0 easy to reach the middle and lower back?

Ans: Let me answer it categorically – Bakblade 2.0 gives you the easiest access to your upper back. The second tier would be the fringes of your middle to lower back as you’ll have to access them from the side, across one side to the other. The most difficult places are the middle portions of your mid to lower back, you’ll have to stretch your arms to the fullest to grab everything there.

Q: Is the Bakblade 2.0 safe to use on other parts of the body?

Ans: In my opinion, no. Firstly, Bakblade 2.0 is not safe for other parts of your body like your chest, butt or even pubic region. Also, the arm gets in the way of cleaning these parts due to the design principles – it’s solely made for the back. And the safety blades used inside may leave your skin irritated or even cut should you apply it anywhere other than the back.

Verdict

Bakblade 2.0 review has so far uncovered the important factors for this uniquely arched back shaver that’s capable of increasing efficiency at will.

I’m still concerned about the cost in the long run. Bakblade could have imposed a design that can re-use the cartridge guards by only replacing the blade – it would cost way less.

But so far there’s no alternate solution that’s viable and similarly effective as Bakblade, thus I’m having to keep on using it despite the replacement cost.

It’s sleek, easy to use and much safer than other renditions of back shavers, I’ll have to live with that for the time being.

Score
Build Quality 4.8
Arm Reach 4.8
Blade Width 4.7
Storage 4.6
Outcomes 4.9
Resupply Cost 4.5
Overall 4.72
Verdict

Bakblade 2.0 brings home a unique back shaver that can be folded, is able to reach 18” and a 3” wide blade to do all your cleaning. To crank up the performance, there’s room to attach two cartridges at the same time. While not cost effective, Bakblade 2.0 is an efficient solution for smooth back shaving results.
