BaBylissPRO MetalFX Foil Shaver

If I start listing down the best foil shavers I’ve ever come across, there’s no way I can leave out the MetalFX foil shaver from BaBylissPRO!

BaBylissPRO Foil Head

Check Price On Amazon

This complete black shaver features a double-foil system, meaning there are two foil units that are meant to cut through your stubble efficiently.

These foils are golden colored, probably made with titanium but the coating also consists of hypoallergenic elements for skin comfort and safety.

You’ll notice that one of the foils is slightly higher than the other. It’s the BaByliss way of making sure that there’s no hair left behind with each of your glides.

BaBylissPRO Shaver Head

Such a fine prospect in the cutting unit is backed up by a significantly powerful motor. BaByliss claims the RPM to be around 10,000 and I don’t think they’re lying.

I’ve handled many BaByliss products up until now and one thing you can be certain of is their relentless power output at a high torque.

BaBylissPRO Foil Removed

As these two line up together, I was able to generate some of the finest shaving outcomes! One thing you must adhere to is the length of your beard.

If you have any growth over 3 days in general, the shaver will fail to deliver the most evened out passes.

BaBylissPRO Underneath Blade

So I’d recommend using this shaver frequently, otherwise the experience may not be as painless as BaByliss is usually known for.

A good bit of foil element must be maneuvered around at will, otherwise it’s no good to handle, operate or use.

BaBylissPRO Housing

While this shaver is made out of steel without any ergonomic paddings, I can’t deny the shape and feel of it arouses a solid grip.

I won’t be using it in wet conditions, that’s for sure, so the lack of rubber padding doesn’t bother me at all.

BaBylissPRO Grip

The best results may be found with a little application of shaving lotion. For most parts, the stray hair is stored underneath the foil head that needs to be dusted off after each shave.

What I like about this shaver is its powerful motor and the way this power is harnessed through the hypoallergenic cutting elements.

BaBylissPRO Pressure

Yes, your skin needs some getting used to, but once there, you’ll feel no agitation or red patches even on the sensitive parts of your skin!

For wrinkly areas, stretch out your skin so that the shaver can get every bit of hair cleaned out without requiring extra passes.

It’s true that there’s no tilting head to adapt to your contour, but the pressure sensitive foils can compensate for that to a great extent!

Additional Features: 3 hour battery life, 2 year warranty, blade remove button, travel-friendly pouch.

What I Like

  • Hypoallergenic foils treat skin kindly
  • Powerful motor removes hair efficiently
  • Long battery life encourages portability

What Could be Better

  • Quite heavy and loud

Braun Series 9 9370cc Men’s Electric Shaver

Braun Series 9 shaver is undoubtedly one of the top foil shavers in the market and definitely among the best of all electric shavers in the modern time.

If I start with the foil unit, you’ll see it’s highly complicated and contains the highest number of cutting elements – a tie with Panasonic ARC5 shavers.

Braun Series 9 Foil Head

Check Price On Amazon

Out of the 5 unique and hypoallergenic cutting elements, 2 are foils titled ‘OptiFoils’. These foils are shaped like honeycombs much like most of the Braun series shavers.

Right underneath these foils are the blades that rapidly move back and forth matching with the oscillation from the powerful motor.

Braun Series 9 Shaver Head

Due to the shape and material of the foils, your beard hair is efficiently fed through the vents automatically and are removed instantaneously.

To make it more neat, the two cassettes or specialized trimmers complement the foil units on either side of them.

Braun Series 9 Pressure

One of these trimmers is draped in golden colored and made with titanium, namely ‘HyperLift & Cut’. The other is a silver-colored trimmer sitting with narrower cutting teeth called ‘Direct & Cut’.

The two trimmers together make sure that the hair heads are completely diminished to the level of your skin.

Additionally, their goal is to trim the hair at the tightest spots on your skin, especially the areas underneath your neck or any other folded portions.

Braun Series 9 Foil Removed

If you feel pressing such aggressive trimmers and a couple of foil units too close to your skin may cause discomfort, the fifth element kicks in for the rescue.

It’s the SkinGuard placed between the Direct & Cut trimmer and the adjacent OptiFoil. This skin guard is basically a flat element which maintains the safe distance between your skin and the agile blades.

Braun Series 9 Underneath Blade

All five of the cutting elements respond to pressure and help in adapting to your contour. This means two things – one, you’ll get a smooth result at the end of each shave.

And two, your skin won’t receive the harsh treatment which a lot of electric shavers tend to induce with rigorous scrubbing of blades.

Braun Series 9 Housing

These elements perform 40,000 cutting actions per minute on your skin and a 32-bit processor regulates power based on the AutoSense technology to grant you a gentle treatment.

The foils are further reinforced by a 10-Directional tilting head so that the shaver can accurately follow along your skin bevels and minimize leaving unshaved patches.

Braun Series 9 Grip

Ergonomics are well-placed and it’s a shaver capable of performing both in wet and dry modes. Overall, I’d say the Braun Series 9 is a fine example of ideal foil shavers one must own!

Additional Features: Pop-up trimmer, Sonic Tech, Travel Lock, 1 hour battery life, Thumb Rest Spot, Travel Case.

What I Like

  • OptiFoils feel very comfortable
  • Efficient hair feeding through honeycomb foils
  • Very neat outcome

Panasonic ARC5 Electric Razor for Men, ES-LV65-S

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 is a fine looking electric shaver that can win over your heart at first glance!

Much like the Braun Series 9, this too is meant to be a professional foil shaver but comes at a highly affordable price!

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Foil Head

Check Price On Amazon

If you think of a true foil shaver, I’d say the LV65 is the one that should fit the definition of perfection.

It’s due to the four outrageous foil units placed upon the large shaver head which at times become a little tricky to maneuver at tight spots.

The hexagonal foils work like a charm! I’d call the ARC5 one of the prime choices for sensitive skin shaving because of these foils alone!

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Shaver Head

Unlike Braun Series 9, there’s no additional skin guard element for protection. But if you look closely, you’ll see that in-between the foils, there’s a limiter to save your skin from getting too close to the blades.

Panasonic has named these foils as ‘Arc Foils’ as a promotion for their ARC line of electric shavers.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Pressure

At the very middle of the four foils, a cassette is placed for cleaning out the residue hair which the foils may have missed out during a glide.

These Arc Foils are ultra thin so that there’s no height of facial hair left once you’re done with the shaving.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Foil Removed

Underneath the foils are 30-degree honed, ultra sharp Japanese technology blades that keep moving back and forth to remove the hair fed through these foils.

According to Panasonic, the shaver is capable of 14,000 CPM and 70,000 cross cutting actions per minute.

The pressure sensitive foils and cassette react to skin contour very well and cause no pain or burn.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Underneath Blade

These cutting units are enabled by a high performing linear motor and there’s no power drop until the batteries are completely drained.

This motor is informed by the Active Shave Sensor Technology. It reads the beard density multiple times each second, adjusts the motor power accordingly so that the foils can oscillate at a precise pace.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Housing

A tech as such implies you have the power to alter between automatic sense mode to full throttle – choose whichever floats your boat.

Comfort of the foils is further enhanced by the Multiflex Pivoting Head which moves, tilts or adjusts in every direction to remain attached to your skin at any angle.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 Grip

Check Price On Amazon

I believe the ARC5 LV65 is ideal for both wet and dry shaving – maybe in dry with a little moisture on the beard. 3 day growth is just about right for the foils to grab at any part.

Up to this day, the ARC5 LV65 has been among one of my favorite foil shavers and I’d say every penny spent on it is totally worth the comfortable experience!

Additional Features: Ergonomic, Waterproof, 45 minute runtime, Great LED panel, Travel Lock, Pop-up trimmer.

What I Like

  • 4 foils increase shaving efficiency
  • Lack of direct skin to blade contact ensures comfortable shaving
  • Can shave both wet and dry

What Could be Better

  • Shaver head is a little large

Panasonic ARC5 Electric Razor for Men, ES-LV67-K

In my opinion, the ARC5 LV67 from Panasonic is the dedicated wet shaving electric variant of the LV65 that I mentioned just now.

While the key difference between the two may seem like merely cosmetic, there are a couple more additional factors you should take into consideration.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Foil Head

Initially, the foil units are identical: a 4+1 setup with a broad shaver head to enable the fastest beard cleaning journey a man could ever hope for.

While the four foils may be the same in terms of thickness and performance, the foil units cannot be interchanged between LV65 and LV67 due to design constraints.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Shaver Head

The pressure sensitivity feels up to par and the cutting efficiency is accurate – I expected nothing shy of that.

But there are two factors that push the LV67 to be regarded as a better equipped shaver in wet modes.

First one is the ergonomic arrangement. You’ll locate a dedicated thumb rest spot right at the chest of this shaver which was absent in the LV65.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Pressure

On top of that, the automatic technology in this shaver is the Intelligent Shave Sensor Technology as opposed to the Active Tech.

What this does is – the sensors hidden inside the shaver head reads the density of your beard 220 times per second and corresponds with motor power adjustment up to 14 times per second.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Foil Removed

This is a gamechanger in wet shaving mode with the application of shaving gel, foam or lotion of any sort.

With each glide over beard growth of up to 3 days, you’ll find smooth and cleanly shaved skin surfacing from the bearded mess you wanted to get rid of.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Underneath Blade

The 16 Directional Multiflex head tilts and adjusts according to your skin’s ups and downs, so the foils can easily grab hold of the hair that may have tried hiding out from you.

In the middle, the cassette is actually the same as the LV65. All of the 5 cutting elements cover the Japanese tech 30-degree blades which steer clear from direct skin contact.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Housing

These blades are made with stainless steel and they really mean business. If you use the LV67 regularly, you’ll have to replace the head every 2 years to keep things sharp and agile.

The motor is powerful enough and there’s only the automatic mode available at your disposal. You cannot override that for full power the way you could with the LV65 version.

Panasonic ARC5 LV67 Grip

Foil elements in the LV67 feel supremely comfortable and there hasn’t been any sort of agitation after shaving through the densest of beards. This Panasonic ARC5 shaver has my thumbs up!

Additional Features: Waterproof, 50 minute runtime, 2-year warranty, Travel lock, Matte black housing, Pop-up Trimmer.

What I Like

  • Intelligent Tech enhances foil shaving capability
  • Foils work really well with foam or gel
  • Forgiving for skin

What Could be Better

  • A little expensive

Braun Series 7 7071cc Flex Electric Razor for Men

Braun Series 7 features a minimalist take on foil units, something similar to the BaBylissPRO Foil shaver but the foils are set at the same level.

I’d say it’s a toned down version of the Braun Series 9, although there’s very little similarity between the two top shavers from Braun.

Braun Series 7 Foil Head

If you’re keen on learning about the major differences between the Braun Series 7 and Series 9, my in-depth article may arouse your interest.

First of all, the foils in the Series 7 shaver are shaped like pentagons. These aren’t symmetric and the placement of the vents isn’t arbitrary.

Braun Series 7 Shaver Head

It’s a carefully crafted mechanism that enables feeding flat lying hair in random directions efficiently.

Since one would consider the Series 7 over the Series 9 due to the price gap in general, the cost-cutting takes a hit by reducing the number of cutting elements from 5 to 3.

That’s why, most of the cutting actions are expected to be performed using the two OptiFoils and one cutting cassette in the middle.

Braun Series 7 Pressure

Despite sharing the name and the tech, the foil orientation is slightly varied from the pioneering Series 9 shaver.

However, the lack of foils and cutting elements do bite back in terms of shaving efficiency, closeness and frequency of shaving.

In terms of efficiency, it’s not surprising that you’ll have to make a couple of extra passes to get that clean look as opposed to the Braun Series 9 or Panasonic ARC5 LV67.

Braun Series 7 Foil Removed

If compared against the BaBylissPRO FoilFX, I’d say the Series 7 is definitely the only choice for wet shaves since the former isn’t waterproof.

But for dry modes, I’d pick the BaByliss shaver for efficiency and shaving frequency whereas the Series 7 generates closer results.

Braun Series 7 Underneath Blade

This shaver cannot grab beard growth over 2 days, so you’ll be obligated to put this into action every day or every other day.

If not, you’ll have to utilize the EasyClick feature in this shaver and opt for the trimmer head to trim down your longer beard to a size which the foils can easily grab on to.

Braun Series 7 Housing

The 360 neck isn’t highly adaptive, so you’ll have to rely a lot on the pressure sensitivity of the blades and your own maneuverability.

There is AutoSense embedded in the shaver and the cutting actions are supposed to be 24,000 per minute.

Braun Series 7 Grip

However, I feel the motor power is much less than the Series 9 shaver. So, regardless of the foil elements being non-allergenic and skin-friendly, you cannot meet the comfort level of their latest model.

But for the price, the Series 7 shaver is still a bargain. I call it the handy personal foil shaver which you can use at any time, under the shower or during travel.

Additional Features: Waterproof, Washable, Good grip, 50 minute runtime, 5-minute quick charge for one shave, Travel lock, Travel Case.

What I Like

  • Minimal foil design
  • Thin head with two foils can shave at tight spots
  • Cleaning is easy

What Could be Better

  • Could shave a little longer stubble

MANSCAPED The Handyman Compact Face Shaver

If all these heavy duty foil shavers feel overwhelming for you, I now present to you the most portable, lightweight and handy little foil shaver which you can carry inside your pocket!

It’s the Handyman shaver by Manscaped, truly one of a kind electric foil shaver to elevate your personal grooming routine!

MANSCAPED The Handyman Foil Head

Unlike most portable foil shavers, this device has walked a different direction while incorporating the foil element to the device.

The vents in the foil are tinier than general shavers, but there’s a reason for that. Adjacent to the foil unit is a Dual Action long hair leveler.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Shaver Head

As you’ve already seen, most of the foil shavers can’t handle stubble growth of around 2 to 3 days in general.

But with this shaver from Manscaped, you have the liberty of trimming down your facial hair for up to four day’s growth!

MANSCAPED The Handyman Pressure

If you’re shaving longer hair, try putting the hair leveler side first. Put that in contact with skin and it’ll level your facial hair to the degree where the foil unit will be able to pick those up for thorough cleaning.

The dual action leveler is actually built with Manscaped’s SkinSafe technology. It doesn’t cut or tug even when you press it against your face.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Foil Removed

This pressure is counteracted by the pressure sensitivity and the shaver manages to follow along the contour on top of that.

There are cutting elements right beneath the foils as they trim off the shortened beard to generate a smooth look.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Underneath Blade

It’s true that there’s no tilting head for proper contour adaptation or external cassettes to guarantee a fine outcome.

Also, for longer beard, you’ll have to give it a little extra time and additional passes to reduce the hair down to manageable length.

But on the upside, imagine the things you can achieve with this nifty little foil shaver! You can easily store it anywhere or take it with you while traveling.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Housing

I even know a few people who keep this Handyman inside their car and trim off their beard in traffic on a daily basis.

It’s a shaver that calls for convenience and with the lid to cover off the cutting elements as well as the power button, there’s no risk of any sort.

One interjection I have to make is using the Handyman under your neck if your skin there is quite sensitive.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Grip

Since it’s a fully dry shaver, despite the IPX7 waterproof rating, there can be slight agitation if you’re not careful enough.

Wet shaves tend to clog up the foils, so that’s a no-go in my opinion. But you’re free to wash the shaver without any hesitation.

MANSCAPED The Handyman Weight

With sufficient motor power, battery life, durability and a size that would fit perfectly in your palm, it’s honestly a steal for the price Manscaped is offering this shaver at!

Additional Features: 1 hour battery life, 90 day warranty, Travel efficient, Lightweight, Perfectly fits in hand, Type-C port for easy charging.

What I Like

  • Two cutting elements complement each other
  • Can work with a little longer stubble
  • Foil doesn’t cause irritation

What Could be Better

  • Requires caution at sensitive parts

Braun Series 5 5018s Electric Shaver

The new variants of the Braun Series 5 is currently a top choice in the market of affordable shavers and one of the main reasons is its effective foil elements for regular shaving!

In hindsight, the design looks very similar to the new Series 7 shaver but there are certain differences that set these two shavers apart very clearly.

Braun Series 5 Foil Head

Don’t be fooled by the look! The Braun Series 5 shaver doesn’t incorporate the latest OptiFoil units, rather has stuck to the older SensoFoils to reduce cost.

These foils aren’t as effective at grabbing flat hair as the newer tech and the cutting technology underneath sometimes fails to develop that neat and smooth result like its successors.

Braun Series 5 Shaver Head

Also, the trimmer cassette in the middle struggles with longer stubble, so the maximum limit for you to put this shaver into action is 2 days.

Again, the EasyClick feature comes to the rescue, just like the Series 7 shaver. You can replace the shaver head with the trimmer to reduce the beard volume.

Braun Series 5 Pressure

But it consumes a lot of time and energy, so I’d urge you to consider the Series 5 if you’re a frequent shaver and looking for something at a lower price.

Because despite the pressure sensitivity of the foils and the cassette, the shaver head is completely fixed and has no degree of tilting whatsoever.

Braun Series 5 Foil Removed

So you’ll have to rely a lot on your skill with the shaver to ensure there’s no unshaved patches left behind and that often makes you go for some additional passes.

This means you’ll have prolonged skin contact with your shaver. It’s still a relief considering you’re having to deal with foil elements. Otherwise you’d be in for some agony I’m sure.

I found the Series 5 works best in wet modes. Dry shaves just don’t feel as comfortable as well as close, the way newer Braun shavers make things work.

Braun Series 5 Underneath Blade

It’s a compromise you have to concede since the price range is much lower than the other Braun or Panasonic products.

The neck of the shaver reads EasyClean and the vents underneath are supposed to channel water below the foils to clean out the stray hair easily.

Braun Series 5 Housing

But in reality, it’s not very effective and you’ll have to go to the old way of removing the head for a good rinse, unless you have a cleaning station.

You can still get away with dry shaves considering your beard is really short and you’ve applied some shaving lotion beforehand.

Braun Series 5 Grip

Overall, the Braun Series 5 brings a good price to performance ratio to the table and the most highlighting as well as comforting factor has been the foil elements on the shaver.

Additional Features: Good grip, Easy head replacement, 40 minute runtime, LED panel, Travel lock.

What I Like

  • SensoFoils ensure skin safety
  • Good price to performance
  • Wet shaves generate better results

What Could be Better

  • Doesn’t have the strongest motor

Why Trust My Verdict?

It’s a fair question which I always like to answer before moving on to my verdict. Why should you trust my verdict on these foil shavers?

First of all, I personally own these products and these have been proactive purchases, no promotional aspect lingers around here.

Secondly, since I bought these products with my own money, it was done with the intent of using and reviewing first-hand, so that I can give you access to an objective take.

Thirdly, these shavers have been used by my barber friend at his store on a regular basis. He asks his clients about the experience and I get to gather authentic insight from a diverse group of consumers.

Lastly, my goal is to call out negative aspects without holding back while at the same time praising the positives that are hard earned by a brand.

Results for the Best Foil Shaver in 2024

Now I’ll take you on a journey through my comparative take between the top 7 foil shavers I’ve selected based on my research and experience.

This section should tell you how each of the products is unique and has its own characteristics that earned them a spot as a top foil shaver in my opinion.

Foil Type

Type of foil matters when you’re considering the best foil shaver in the current market. I’d have to side with the Panasonic ARC5 brothers with my verdict here.

Foil Type

These two shavers show unique characteristics with their four foil shaving system which the Series 9 from Braun fails to match due to the two foil units at disposal.

Right afterward we see the Braun Series 7 sharing the same OptiFoils as the Series 9 but not as efficient in every condition like the killer Braun Series 9 is.

Then it’s a tie between the two typical foil shavers by BaBylissPRO and Manscaped. Both of them have shown unique foil designs but it’s tough to compete with professional grade foil shavers at this scale.

Lastly, the Braun Series 5 finishes off the list with its older generation of SensoFoils, it’s good but not good enough to beat the rest.

Foil Type 2

Cutting Efficiency

When it comes to shaving efficiency, there’s none yet as good as the Braun Series 9. That’s why it’s one of the highest-picked foil shavers by professionals across the universe.

Panasonic ARC5 LV65 and LV67 are equally good and they match the efficiency of the Series 9. But they come a little shy due to the large shaver head as it renders shaving tight areas a little challenging.

Braun Series 7 and Manscaped Handyman are equally efficient but for completely different reasons. Series 7 shines with its newly designed head and foils while the Handyman excels because of the dual action shaving unit.

Braun Series 5 and BaBylissPRO Foil shaver ties for last since neither of them have tilting heads and struggles with slightly longer stubble.

Cutting Efficiency

Motor Power

Raw motor power is important while assessing a good foil shaver. Because a motor unit that’s lagging can decrease the true efficiency of foil and lead to hair pulling or overall discomfort.

Top tier foil shavers usually have good motors and it’s evident in this case since the Braun Series 9, BaBylissPRO Foil shaver, Panasonic ARC5 LV65 and LV67 are all tied for the top spot.

That said, their motors don’t all sound the same but the performances are almost identical and mostly toward the good side.

Braun Series 7 is a little way behind the top 4 and Series 5 is the least powerful motor with the Handyman splitting the Braun pair in this category.

Motor Power 2

Comfort

Shaving comfort for foil shavers mostly focus on the pressure sensitivity of the foil units, sharpness of blades and the adaptability of the shaver’s head with your contour.

That said, I found the Panasonic ARC5 LV67 to be the most comfortable among the lot as it succeeds at all three of these criteria.

The second place is shared between the Braun Series 9 and ARC5 LV65, the former coming a little shy in dry shaving while the latter lacking a little in the wets.

Third place goes to the Braun Series 7 since the neck tilting is a little restrictive and the shaving elements don’t arouse the same degree of comfort.

Handyman and BaByliss tie thereafter with their limited amount of pressure sensitive foils and are followed by the Braun Series 5.

Comfort 2

Ergonomics

Ergonomics do pose a valid consideration in the best foil shaver picking business because without a proper grip, you won’t be able to guide the foils to the correct direction at all times.

Ergonomics

With that in mind, I reckon Braun Series 9 and Panasonic ARC5 LV67 share the first place because of their fabulous housing and the impeccable gripping elements.

LV65 is a little way behind due to the absence of the thumb rest spot. Braun Series 7 and Series 5 come right after with their almost identical ergonomic properties.

Handyman and BaBylissPRO FoilFX are understandably the last ones in the lot since they rely fully on your hand grip without providing any ergonomic padding to rendezvous toward.

Ergonomics 2

Portability

If you say portability, it means how heavy the foil shavers are or how much battery life each of these can provide you with.

Portability

Portability is worth considering in this case because a heavy shaver or one that requires frequent charging will deprive you of the necessary skin to foil contact time or opportunity.

That said, Manscaped Handyman is undoubtedly the most portable shaver in the list and it’s followed by the BaByliss Foil shaver, Braun Series 7 and Series 5 devices.

Braun Series 9 is slightly more portable than the two Panasonic ARC5 variants, thus the two siblings are at the last spot for their weight as well as battery life.

Portability 2

How to Use a Foil Shaver?

If you want to learn the basics of using an electric shaver, please check out my article where I covered the procedure in-depth.

However, to precisely learn the use of a foil shaver, here’s my brief outline which you can easily follow to improve your shaving routine!

Preparation: Preparing your beard for a foil shaver is very important, especially if the stubble exceeds the growth of 3 days.

Because foil shavers don’t pick up stubble that are long, so you’ll either have to rely on a trimmer to decrease the length, or shave regularly to avoid this issue altogether.

Additionally, foil shavers can perform in dry modes without any issue, but I’ve found more comforting results if shaving lotion, oil or even some water is applied.

For ones with sensitive skin, there’s also another elaborate shaving guide, of which you can pick out the basics and come back to learn the foil shaving application here.

Shaving: Shaving with a foil unit is relatively easy as opposed to other electric or manual grooming tools.

You’ll need to press the foil part of the shaver hard against your skin after turning the device on.

Then, glide vertically on your face so that the passes are rendered smooth and allowed to grab all the flat lying hair.

You shouldn’t require more than 3-4 passes for each facial area, depending on the foil shaver you’re using.

Finally, check for unshaved parts using your thumbs and determine if you should make any additional passes.

Post-Shave Care: After the shave, wash your face using cold water to mitigate any risk of burning sensation, although these rarely occur with good foil shavers.

Apply some lotion to the shaved areas to allow some moisturization to your skin since foil shaving can leave your skin dry.

Since there’s no risk of cuts with a foil shaver, you don’t need to use any alcohol based aftershaves.

With these three simple steps, you can nail your foil shaving routine each time within a very short duration!

Buyer’s Guide for the Best Foil Shaver

Now that I’ve established a baseline for the best foil shavers in my list, let me elaborate a little to clarify things.

Although Braun Series 9 and Panasonic ARC5 LV67 have tied their overall score, the Series 9’s foil units are slightly more convenient overall, be that performance or maintenance.

On the other hand, no one can beat the LV67 when it comes to wet shaving. Its counterpart LV65 is the most comfortable foil shaver for direct dry shaves.

Series 7 from Braun is a compromised variant of the Series 9 with certain limitations and it’s considerable due to the price difference.

Braun Series 5 shaver is the most budget-friendly foil shaver. At this price range, you won’t find any other foil shaver matching its capabilities.

BaBylissPRO shaver is a monster in durability, motor power and battery life. It can trim through any thickness or density of facial hair!

Finally, the Manscaped Handyman shaver is your perfect travel companion due to the size, weight, price and overall convenient experience!

FAQ

Answering a few FAQs doesn’t hurt because these can indefinitely increase your knowledge on the best foil shavers as well as regular foil shavers altogether.

Q: Should I use a foil shaver everyday?

Ans: If foil shavers don’t arouse any skin reaction when you use them, then yes, you can use a foil shaver everyday. If you ask me if you ‘should’ use it daily, then I’ll say it’s a matter of preference considering your skin is fine with such a mode of shaving. I tend to use foil shavers every other day, so you can opt for that route if needed.

Q: Are foil shavers effective?

Ans: Yes! Foil shavers are highly effective for the closest shaving outcomes, almost as close as manual razors without irritation or bloodshed! These also cater to sensitive skins, so that can also be your point of consideration.

Q: Do foil shavers need shaving cream?

Ans: In general, foil shavers do not need shaving cream. But if you want a closer outcome through a more comfortable shaving experience, it’s advisable to apply some shaving cream followed by a thorough exfoliation beforehand. Check out my wet vs dry shaving article for more info in this matter.

Verdict

Score-wise, you’ve seen it’s a tie between the Braun Series 9 shaver and the Panasonic ARC5 LV67 shaver.

I’ve made my opinion quite loud and clear by picking sides with the Series 9. Honestly, it’s one of the finest foil shavers any brand has ever designed.

The foils are highly comfortable, the two cutting elements in the middle help out to generate that smooth feeling and the guard is an added touch I never expected to find in an electric razor.

You cannot go wrong by picking any of the shavers from my list, you have the liberty of choosing that based on your preference.

But if I were you and I’d have the budget, I wouldn’t consider anything beyond the Braun Series 9 shaver – yes, it’s that good!
