If you think of a true foil shaver, I’d say the LV65 is the one that should fit the definition of perfection.

It’s due to the four outrageous foil units placed upon the large shaver head which at times become a little tricky to maneuver at tight spots.

The hexagonal foils work like a charm! I’d call the ARC5 one of the prime choices for sensitive skin shaving because of these foils alone!

Unlike Braun Series 9, there’s no additional skin guard element for protection. But if you look closely, you’ll see that in-between the foils, there’s a limiter to save your skin from getting too close to the blades.

Panasonic has named these foils as ‘Arc Foils’ as a promotion for their ARC line of electric shavers.

At the very middle of the four foils, a cassette is placed for cleaning out the residue hair which the foils may have missed out during a glide.

These Arc Foils are ultra thin so that there’s no height of facial hair left once you’re done with the shaving.

In my opinion, the ARC5 LV67 from Panasonic is the dedicated wet shaving electric variant of the LV65 that I mentioned just now.

While the key difference between the two may seem like merely cosmetic, there are a couple more additional factors you should take into consideration.

Initially, the foil units are identical: a 4+1 setup with a broad shaver head to enable the fastest beard cleaning journey a man could ever hope for.

While the four foils may be the same in terms of thickness and performance, the foil units cannot be interchanged between LV65 and LV67 due to design constraints.

The pressure sensitivity feels up to par and the cutting efficiency is accurate – I expected nothing shy of that.

But there are two factors that push the LV67 to be regarded as a better equipped shaver in wet modes.

First one is the ergonomic arrangement. You’ll locate a dedicated thumb rest spot right at the chest of this shaver which was absent in the LV65.

On top of that, the automatic technology in this shaver is the Intelligent Shave Sensor Technology as opposed to the Active Tech.

Braun Series 7 features a minimalist take on foil units, something similar to the BaBylissPRO Foil shaver but the foils are set at the same level.

I’d say it’s a toned down version of the Braun Series 9, although there’s very little similarity between the two top shavers from Braun.

If you’re keen on learning about the major differences between the Braun Series 7 and Series 9, my in-depth article may arouse your interest.

First of all, the foils in the Series 7 shaver are shaped like pentagons. These aren’t symmetric and the placement of the vents isn’t arbitrary.

It’s a carefully crafted mechanism that enables feeding flat lying hair in random directions efficiently.

Since one would consider the Series 7 over the Series 9 due to the price gap in general, the cost-cutting takes a hit by reducing the number of cutting elements from 5 to 3.

That’s why, most of the cutting actions are expected to be performed using the two OptiFoils and one cutting cassette in the middle.

Despite sharing the name and the tech, the foil orientation is slightly varied from the pioneering Series 9 shaver.

However, the lack of foils and cutting elements do bite back in terms of shaving efficiency, closeness and frequency of shaving.

In terms of efficiency, it’s not surprising that you’ll have to make a couple of extra passes to get that clean look as opposed to the Braun Series 9 or Panasonic ARC5 LV67.

If compared against the BaBylissPRO FoilFX, I’d say the Series 7 is definitely the only choice for wet shaves since the former isn’t waterproof.

But for dry modes, I’d pick the BaByliss shaver for efficiency and shaving frequency whereas the Series 7 generates closer results.

This shaver cannot grab beard growth over 2 days, so you’ll be obligated to put this into action every day or every other day.

In hindsight, the design looks very similar to the new Series 7 shaver but there are certain differences that set these two shavers apart very clearly.

Don’t be fooled by the look! The Braun Series 5 shaver doesn’t incorporate the latest OptiFoil units, rather has stuck to the older SensoFoils to reduce cost.

These foils aren’t as effective at grabbing flat hair as the newer tech and the cutting technology underneath sometimes fails to develop that neat and smooth result like its successors.

Also, the trimmer cassette in the middle struggles with longer stubble, so the maximum limit for you to put this shaver into action is 2 days.

Again, the EasyClick feature comes to the rescue, just like the Series 7 shaver. You can replace the shaver head with the trimmer to reduce the beard volume.

But it consumes a lot of time and energy, so I’d urge you to consider the Series 5 if you’re a frequent shaver and looking for something at a lower price.

Because despite the pressure sensitivity of the foils and the cassette, the shaver head is completely fixed and has no degree of tilting whatsoever.

So you’ll have to rely a lot on your skill with the shaver to ensure there’s no unshaved patches left behind and that often makes you go for some additional passes.

This means you’ll have prolonged skin contact with your shaver. It’s still a relief considering you’re having to deal with foil elements. Otherwise you’d be in for some agony I’m sure.

I found the Series 5 works best in wet modes. Dry shaves just don’t feel as comfortable as well as close, the way newer Braun shavers make things work.

Score-wise, you’ve seen it’s a tie between the Braun Series 9 shaver and the Panasonic ARC5 LV67 shaver.

I’ve made my opinion quite loud and clear by picking sides with the Series 9. Honestly, it’s one of the finest foil shavers any brand has ever designed.

The foils are highly comfortable, the two cutting elements in the middle help out to generate that smooth feeling and the guard is an added touch I never expected to find in an electric razor.

You cannot go wrong by picking any of the shavers from my list, you have the liberty of choosing that based on your preference.

But if I were you and I’d have the budget, I wouldn’t consider anything beyond the Braun Series 9 shaver – yes, it’s that good!
