Ever since I grabbed myself a Lawn Mower 4.0 from Manscaped, my balls almost fell to their knees (figuratively) and thanked me for pulling them out of the threat of bloodbath.
Jokes apart, I’ve never felt more relaxed trimming my balls using an electric device with an aftermath of utmost comfort and smoothness.
With this trimmer, I explored almost every part of my body apart from my face to test out its limits (should it have any).
My review here isn’t about promoting how good it is or mentioning only the selling points.
Rather, I didn’t hold back while criticizing the areas of improvement so that you can take lessons from my experience and decide for yourself whether it’ll be a worthy investment from your end!

Lawn Mower Family
Manscaped is ever-expanding on the body grooming industry and three of their premium units are currently available on the market to be snatched away by consumers like myself!
Their latest hit is the Lawn Mower 5.0 Plus, but the most popular are the predecessors of Lawn Mower 3.0 and 4.0.
The latter of the two have been consumer favorites due to their price point, offered features and the comfort upon which the trust has been built to be introduced with the precious parts.
These are all-round devices to take care of hair trimming across the entire body to the most specific parts.
We must embrace the gift of technology and throw away those manual, blood-thirsty razors once and for all!
Because I believe the Lawn Mower family to have succeeded in establishing themselves as ‘the body groomer’ to have by every considerate consumer out there!
What’s Inside the Box?
Unboxing the Lawn Mower 4.0 has been one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve ever had. Mind you, I had my hands on different types of grooming units that aren’t restricted to body shaving or belong to a singular genre.
Despite handling bad boys from the most premium brands, the Lawn Mower 4.0 carries an elegance that begins with their packaging and organization inside the box.
When you initially uncover the box, you’ll find a suave-looking and stunningly gorgeous trimming unit lying on the cleft. Upon removal, the accessories are neatly placed on designated sections deep inside the box.
Most of these accessories are stored inside black poly pouch packs and you won’t have to tear through them for unboxing. Rather, these poly contain an adhesive that allows you to undo from the top, get an accessory out and reseal it.
What You’ll Get: A Lawn Mower 4.0 trimming unit, two guards of four length settings, one charging dock, one cleaning brush, one USB Type-C cable and one charging brick.
Futuristic Design
Time for us to see what Manscaped has cooked up in the design department for the Lawn Mower 4.0 and appreciate the aesthetic values while we can!
What I Like
- Smart design
- Supreme grip level
- Good placement of the on/off switch
What I Don’t Like
- None that I can mention
Captivating Aesthetics for the Housing Design
From the get go, this device feels like a wet dream for people enthralled by deluxe-looking objects. The overall housing is divided into distinct sections instead of being designed into a singular, seamless device.
Their previous edition from Manscaped, the Lawn Mower 3.0, hosted a textured housing without the edges you’ll find on the 4.0.
Both of these have their unique stylistic appeal, the previous version catering more toward the traditional genre of designs while the latter version commits to a modern, futuristic take
Although the entire body comprises of black color, the top half is shiny as opposed to the matte finish at the bottom half.
These shades of black are accented with silver around the tactile on/off button down the middle and serves as the outline around the middle, branding part.
The battery level indicator has certainly expanded in size compared to the Lawn Mower 3.0 and holds a similar LED light toward the top side of the device.
Effective Level of Grip
Let’s get that big headache out of the way – does the unique design on the Lawn Mower 4.0 compromise or enhance grip level?
I know it’s a subjective matter and a lot of it depends on hand size, preference and mode of operation.
If I start from the very basics, this tiny device feels really good holding on to, and the sharp curves with the matte finish allows for a slightly better grip over the 3.0.
Then again, it’s completely my opinion and your experience could be completely different than what I had.
A good aspect about such an edged housing is that I can grab the tip of the trimmer if I’m willing to go really close to my family jewels or at any other tight spots.
Such a degree of flexibility is quite rare among body groomers, let alone devices that specialize in ball trimming.
Also, Manscaped has nailed the placement of the on/off switch in both the mentioned trimmers, completely out of the way for accidental pushes during any sort of operation.
Sturdy & Durable Build Quality
The build quality is exactly as I’d expect out of a body groomer to be at this particular price range. It features strong housing constructed with premium materials.
It has passed my 1 meter drop test on an even surface without showing any sign of damage or dent.
However, not all falls are from such a short height and the landing doesn’t occur on flat surfaces, so accidental falls with certain force can leave behind cosmetic damages.
Although you can’t expect such a tiny body groomer or ball shaver, however you see it, to be as sturdy as other mainstream, heavy-duty facial shavers.
The blades and accessories also reflect that extra character in build quality, made to sustain and render a long-term investment.
In short, for what it’s worth, I’m very happy with the quality of build and the materials used for the housing.
I must mention that the adjustable guards are some of the best ones I’ve ever used with a body groomer. The quality is supreme, there’s a solid tactile feeling to it and these are made to last a long time.
What I Like
- Solid build passing minimum drop test
- Built with premium materials
- Accessories are also well-built
What I Don’t Like
- Not unbreakable, but durable for its size and price
All the Necessary Features & More!
I’m going to elaborate on the features of this trimmer from a first-hand user’s point of view to see how much of the advertised stuff is actually real!
What I Like
- Grand combination of blades and motor
- Travel lock, LED light and good battery life
- Convenient accessories
What I Don’t Like
- No charging port on the trimmer unit
Replaceable Ceramic Blades
For me, one of many admirable factors for the Lawn Mower 4.0 has been the ceramic blades that can be replaced upon necessity.
These blades are well-built yet don’t cause any sort of disturbance to the skin. The teeth alignment felt better than the Lawn Mower 3.0 for me, thus room for less irritation around sensitive areas.
Manscaped has branded the blades as ‘SkinSafe’, suggesting the safety of trimming even without guards protecting skin from the blade’s direct contact.
I personally think that there’s no better blade for trimming your testicles up close than the set provided by Manscaped.
Since mine was an upgrade from Lawn Mower 3.0 to 4.0, I was worried whether my extra set of pre-purchased blades would go to waste.
But I made sure with the Manscaped customer service executive that all the Lawn Mower series blades are interchangeable and I was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
This is how the other body grooming companies should idealize to render a cost-efficient upgrade for the consumers!
Quiet & Powerful Motor
As I always say, shaving your balls with an electric device requires something with a powerful motor paired up with the safest possible blades.
Lawn Mower 4.0 carries the safest possible blades and the motors complement a highly efficient trimming solution.
This is a great combination in my opinion, particularly for the ones who are opting for this device as a regular ball and groin area trimmer.
Manscaped has branded the motor technology as QuietStroke, the noise level kept to a very tolerable level despite the motor being highly powerful.
I can confirm that the sound of the motor is nothing more than a light buzz and it shouldn’t be irritating to the consumers, at least it wasn’t for me.
Having the capacity of going 7,000 RPM is a much appreciated design since it’s certainly above the minimum motor power for body grooming – that is 4,000/5,000 RPM.
Some trimmers tend to make loud sounds when large portions of hair are being removed, but Manscaped’s design team deserves respect for keeping that to a minimum.
Overall, I’m very pleased with the way these motors have withstood every density and thickness of hair thrown at it as the trimmer chopped through it all effortlessly!
Every Required Guide Attachment Included
Trust me, the struggle to perfectly attach and detach a guard on body trimmers has always been a nightmare for me.
For most parts, I’m not even sure if the comb guard has fastened sufficiently and wouldn’t give up halfway through the trimming process.
Manscaped has managed to take this particular fear away from me with their two premium quality guards that come inside the package.
These two guards can provide four length settings for the trimmer. Manscaped has numbered each setting between 1-4 and they’re capable of trimming at the following lengths:
3mm, 6mm; 10mm, 13mm
Personally, I don’t find any necessity to use any length other than the 3mm guard when I’m not confident to trim without any guard.
The attaching mechanism is simple: there are notches on either side of the trimmer over which you can slide the comb till the end for a solid fitting.
These notches can be shifted up or down to interchange two length settings on each guard.
For removal, locate the bottom part of the guard and push it upward. This should undo the guard from the track and allow you to slide it out comfortably.
Mind you, even though the blades can fit across generations, the attachments don’t have the same flexibility.
Comes with a Charging Station
This is where I’d like to disagree with Manscaped’s design team for a number of reasons. Let me tell you about the charging station first.
Don’t get me wrong, there are tons of improvements on the charging station over the one you’d get with Lawn Mower 3.0.
For instance, the USB Type-C port on the station or dock has made life so much easier for me! Gone are the days where I’d have to look for and carry around that particular trimmer charger.
Now I can effortlessly plug the station in with my phone’s cable and it works like a charm!
The issue here is, there’s no charging port on the device itself, meaning, you’ll have to rely entirely on the charging station that utilizes electromagnetic induction to power it up.
It means I’ll have to carry around the charging station as well during my travel if it’s a long one.
While the station looks neat and compact, flaunting the Manscaped logo up front, the size isn’t sturdy enough to keep it permanently placed at the corner of my washroom cabinet.
The balance of the station isn’t as good as the Lawn Mower 3.0, however, dock placement is firmer on the 4.0.
Manscaped knew that the consumers would be forced to carry the dock, thus the compromise on the dock’s size, leaving them at a paradox of their own making.
As per performance, it takes me close to 5 hours to fully charge up my trimmer from zero to a hundred.
It’s worth noting that the stations are unique to the devices and can’t be used for other generations.
Additional Accessories
Apart from the trimmer, guards and charging dock, the box includes a tiny cleaning brush, a USB Type-C braided cable and a charging brick – all in black.
The brush is handy for minor cleaning and I rarely use it because my cleaning methods are completely different. Still, getting tiny hair particles out of tight corners are made easy with this tool.
Now comes the charging cable. I’m highly satisfied with the length of almost 5 feet or 1.5 meters. This allows me to place the charging station significantly farther away from the socket.
I’ve used this cable to charge up my phone and it gets the job done perfectly! I treat it as ‘one cable to rule them all’ since this makes it unnecessary to carry around more than one cable for all needs.
Additionally, due to the cable being braided, I know it’s durable and won’t give in easily to any degree of harsh treatment.
The charging brick is a simple, tiny and straightforward one – a typical 5V/1A adapter capable of charging the trimmer.
But it’s not ideal for phone charging due to a slow rate of electricity flow. I use my phone’s brick instead of the one Manscaped provided.
I didn’t know at the time of purchase that the brick is provided only if the device is bought from the USA or Canada market.
IPX Rated Waterproof
Lawn Mower 4.0 indeed meets my expectations of waterproof quality. In theory, this device is rated as the standard IPX7 by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
This rating implies that this device will survive being submerged under not more than one meter of fresh water for half an hour’s duration.
Manscaped also claims that this trimmer has an additional IPX4 rating which in short suggests ‘splash-proof’.
I can’t test vigorously like the experts who specialize in waterproof ratings, my methods will only provide feedback from a consumer’s point of view.
So, I took the trimmer inside the shower and used it under the full flow of water. Additionally, I cleaned up the blades and housing using running water. Lastly, I threw the device inside a bowl of water for 5 minutes.
These are the worst case scenarios for me that includes a ball shaver and water – the Lawn Mower 4.0 has successfully withstood all of it perfectly.
I’ve learned from my experience with the Lawn Mower 3.0 that Manscaped means business when it comes to waterproofing and the 4.0 is successfully carrying on that torch till date.
Ideal Battery Life
To be honest, body groomers have always been outstanding in the battery department because of the less frequent sessions than facial shavers or hair trimmers.
Manscaped advertises the Lawn Mower 4.0 to have a 90 minute lifespan. Technically, it’s correct but I think one hour mark would be the ideal threshold after which you should recharge the device.
Hear me out, this is a body groomer with a motor capacity of 7,000 RPM and you’d want it running at full pace if you want to remove the risk of accidentally hurting your man jewels.
Not that the device won’t trim after one hour, but you’ll sense that the blades aren’t running at full capacity.
I’ve used both the Lawn Mower 4.0 and 3.0 following this philosophy of charging after every hour used and it is yet to disappoint me.
When traveling, I can make do with a full charge for an entire month if my sole concern is around my pubic region with weekly clean-up jobs.
There’s an LED indicator at the bottom half of the trimmer which shows the charging level at three increments : 100%, 67% and 33%, the same as Lawn Mower 3.0.
However, it’d be more visible if each of the indicator levels had specific color on them for an accurate and comprehensive reading.
Travel Lock Included!
Finally, a body groomer with a travel lock! I was tired of devices setting off inside my luggage that left me red-faced with accidental turn-ons and embarrassing vibrating noises in public.
The designers have nailed it with a ‘one-button’ system instead of messing up the styling aesthetics with numerous buttons and ensuring maximum ergonomic value.
This is a solid step-up from the Lawn Mower 3.0 and a much appreciated feature that’s absent from most of Lawn Mower 4.0 competitors at this price range.
For activating and deactivating the travel lock, first make sure that the device is completely turned off.
Then, press the power button 3-times rapidly to activate the lock. Repeat the same process for deactivation.
LED Guide Light for Shower Trim
This is where Manscaped finally beats every other competitor, particularly in the ball trimming arena.
There’s an LED light of 4000K embedded at the top part of the device, guiding your trim even under terrible light conditions.
This has been pretty handy for me when I trim my testicles inside the toilet. If this feature didn’t exist, I might have to perform the obligation in my studio or carry an umbrella light inside of the toilet.
Luckily, Lawn Mower 3.0 and 4.0 both have spared me this trouble. The light shows every bit of wrinkle and unshaved patches at every area of operation.
Usually, the light turns on automatically with the device. But there’s flexibility to turn it on or off separately – but both must be done when the trimmer is running.
The procedure is quite a simple one:
- To turn off: press and hold the power button for 3 seconds
- To turn on: again, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds
I’m in love with this multifunctional power button and I reckon it’s a matter of time for other companies to pick up on this design brilliance that makes our lives so much easier!
Top-Notch Performance
Time to put the bad boy to some good use to assess if it indeed is among the top ball trimmers as well as superior body grooming units currently available on the market!
What I Like
- Smooth and comfortable shave in both wet and dry
- Maximum maneuverability
- Safest possible ball shave
What I Don’t Like
- Leaves behind stubble even without guards on
Superior Quality of Shave
Let’s jump right into the part you’ve all been waiting for! How does the Lawn Mower 4.0 stack up against the other big boys in the manscaping field?
First of all, as I said numerous times, I prefer to have my balls shaved in dry conditions because that’s the best way to get closer to the skin.
Also this ensures I’m not leaving behind hair patches, which is quite tricky to master if trimmed under running water.
That said, I must admit that the Lawn Mower 4.0 provides the most comfortable trim I’ve had in years without any fear of turning into a eunuch by accident.
And that is applicable for trims without any guard on! Ones who have performed such due diligences know how big of a compliment it is to have such confidence cleaning up your balls.
The SkinSafe blades have drastically improved over the previous generation too. Rounded edges have minimized every chance of accidental cuts on any sensitive parts to be trimmed.
You can’t go crazy with your trimmer, mind you, that’ll still hurt and come back to haunt you.
But if you take your time and stretch out your skin during the operation, you’ll get as close to 3 mm length at your testies, even closer on other body parts.
Ensures Comfort during and after Trim
Apart from the quality, comfort is another big factor I’m concerned with while picking out the best ball trimmer out there.
Lawn Mower 4.0 blades as well as motor power doesn’t only make the trimming experience as comfortable as possible, but also the after-effect has no burning sensation.
This is probably because the blades are made of ceramic and the shave isn’t hundred percent up close to the skin, the way you’d get with a manual razor.
The hair, no matter how long or short, is picked up automatically by the ceramic blades and removed without feeling the pain of removal.
I wish I could translate my feelings through words or photos properly, but precious parts need to be kept a secret for my partner and the sensation is only for you to experience with the device.
Long story short, since there’s a slight degree of stubble left after the trim, you’re spared one week of itching, discomfort and getting the baby hair stuck on the undies or pants.
Manscaped sincerely has nailed the design department and gets a full mark for comfort – be that body grooming or pubic region maintenance!
Equipped for Shower Shave
No matter how disinterested I am in the idea of a shower trim, especially around the pubic region, I must go through the process for the sake of an authentic review.
Thus, I charged up my Lawn Mower 4.0 with a three-week hair growth all over my body to test out its true caliber, whether what they say is really true!
Initially, the limitations of wet shaves are there for every body groomer out there. If you let that factor slide, I’d say the job was less hectic and cleaner than most other trimmers I had ever used.
I found it tricky to get the balls done neatly, because running water tends to block light and leaves you in a dangerous territory where your manhood is at stake.
The LED light up top was certainly helpful in this regard! Thank you Manscaped for being innovative with your design!
This was a clear shortcoming if compared against the Meridian Trimmer Original, despite the similarity in experience.
I must mention, the grip level remains the same even when operating the trimmer while being wet or put under running water. Kudos to Manscaped for boosting ball-shaving morale!
Ease of Use
If you ask me how effortless it is to use the Lawn Mower 4.0 for every body grooming need, I’d have to confirm that it’s one of the most handy and convenient products for such tasks.
The trimmer weighs only 123g (4.33oz), implying even the longer sessions don’t tire my hands. It has been effortless for me to clean up my entire body hair without any fuss.
Its size is another charming factor. The device fits perfectly in the palms of my hand, yet not too small to compromise maneuverability.
Add that up with the safe ceramic blades, great ergonomics and LED light on top of the head, not to mention the well-placed on/off switch – it feels like a complete device to have in my arsenal!
Manscaped recommends using the guards to trim sensitive parts and I support that. It ensures no drop of blood spilled on your account.
Otherwise you’d have to be extra-careful going in with the raw blades, especially around your wrinkly crevices.
The blades are 3 cm wide, which is for most part an ideal width to remove the maximum amount of hair with the least number of passes.
It’s easy to turn on/off, docking on the station charges it up and everything is operated with one button only – what more ease could I have asked for?
Should You Buy the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0?
A body groomer that’s priced below $100, what do I expect? A good motor, sharp and safe blades, great ergonomics, sufficient battery life and waterproof capacity.
The Lawn Mower 4.0 has got it all and even some more! Things like the LED light, wireless charging station, travel lock and a designer’s delicacy – all these are like a hefty bonus on Christmas to me!
While it performs in the similar manner to its other competitors at this price range, these extra and useful features push the trimmer up top next to almost nobody.
There’s always this rule, if you pay extra, you’ll get extra. But this device gives me extra without even having to cross the pricey threshold.
I’m impressed with the price to performance ratio delivered by Manscaped and mind you, that’s rare to find in the body groomer’s market.
So why pay extra when you can get it all with the Lawn Mower 4.0?
Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 vs 3.0: What’s the Difference?
I tried to compare the Lawn Mower 4.0 with the 3.0 throughout my review to assess how much difference the two contain from a practical standpoint.
Now, I’m drawing up a side-by-side table to identify the variances properly and see which one excels over the other!
Feature/Quality | Lawn Mower 3.0 | Lawn Mower 4.0 |
---|---|---|
Housing/Ergonomics | Oval and textured | Sharp edges built with ergonomic material |
Blades | SkinSafe | Same technology with safer corners |
Blade Swapping | Straightforward | Significantly easier than 3.0 |
LED Light | Yes | Yes, but more powerful than 3.0 |
Waterproof Quality | IPX7+IPS4 | Same, but higher durability under water |
Travel Lock | No | Yes |
Charging Station/Method | Older model with generic port | Modern USB Type-C port |
Direct Charge | Yes | No, requires the dock |
Price | See On Amazon | See On Amazon |
These differences aren’t big deals, nevertheless it’s better to know about them beforehand if it lands as a deal-breaker for you.
Device Heating
All trimming devices heat up after a certain duration of use. Period. There are powerful motors inside rapidly operating to keep the blades running at optimum pace.
The same applies to both Lawn Mower 3.0 and 4.0. While both the degree of heating up and the time it takes to reach the maximum temperature is similar, I personally think 4.0 heats up slightly less than 3.0.
Surcharge Protection
This is initiated by installing a chip inside the trimmer which protects the device from damage due to overcharging.
The Lawn Mower 4.0 has one built-in from Manscaped and it’s made me feel more secure about leaving my trimmer on the charging dock as a permanent means of storage.
However, the Lawn Mower 3.0 doesn’t have any surcharge protection, so you may want to remove the charger once it’s fully charged. What a buzzkill!
LED Light On/Off
Some of you (including myself) might have wondered if there’s any difference in mechanism for turning the LED lights on or off.
You’d be surprised to know that only the Lawn Mower 4.0 allows you to turn the lights off while the 3.0 contains a permanently on LED light (if the device is turned on).
It means, even if the batteries are of same capacity, by switching off the LED, you’ll be able to retain more juice with the latter installation and the former would drain power slightly faster.
There! Now you know every miniscule difference between the two trimmer units that are similar in many regards. Learning these differences thus is an essential factor if you’d been struggling to pick either of them.

FAQ
Time to address some demanding queries from the consumers about the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 to complete our knowledge on the trimmer!
Q: Can I use the Lawn Mower 4.0 on my face?
Ans: Since it’s a trimmer with sharp blades and powerful motors, you CAN use it on your face. But the question to be asked here is ‘should I use it on my face?’
And the answer is a big NO! Because there are tons of germs and bacteria around your genital area and using the same device on your face would only invite unwanted infections.
Q: How frequently do I need to change the blades?
Ans: It entirely depends on the frequency of your use. A rule of thumb is to replace the blades every 3 months if you trim your pubes each week and body hair every other week.
But as soon as you feel the trimmer tugging the hair, it’s an indicator for immediate replacement.
Q: Do I need to use shaving foam or gel while using the Lawn Mower 4.0?
Ans: In my opinion, Lawn Mower 4.0 is better off as a standalone device utilized in dry. If you must, take it inside your shower for a wet shave, but nothing more than that is required for a fine shave.
Q: Does the Lawn Mower 4.0 have a warranty/return policy?
A: Manscaped will advertise their Peak Hygiene Plan and all, the precise answer is you get both a guarantee and a warranty for the product.
The guarantee period is 30 days, within which you can return the product and get a full refund. The warranty period lasts for 90 days starting from the purchase receipt.
This warranty will land you a replacement should the one you have is faulty within Manscaped’s policies. To claim a warranty, visit this page on Mascaped’s website.
Concluding Remarks
Well, to finally answer the burning question, is the Lawn Mower 4.0 worth the investment? From my end, it’s a big YES!
I mean, look at it – it looks great, feels great in hand and performs better than most other manscaping devices.
It’s true that paying close to $100 isn’t an ideal amount to spend on a trimmer that specializes in body grooming.
But from my side, I see it as a one-time investment that’ll pay me back in the shape of comfort and convenience for years.
And to keep my balls safe and out of harm’s way, it’s a worthwhile one-time pay I’m glad to have made!
