Utilizing this, no matter how curved or bumpy your scalp may be, you’d feel close to zero resistance while gliding the device over your balding head.

If your head has curves that the flat shaving head can’t just reach, the pop-up trimmer can very easily take care of that within seconds.

Such motor power doesn’t feel overwhelming to hold on to and the overall design is perfectly balanced if seen from a consumer’s point of view.

Wireless Performance

A head shaver should most certainly be wireless otherwise there would be no point in even considering it among the top choices.

Freebird shaver runs on a 600 mAh battery, good enough to keep it juiced for a little over one hour (although the brand claims it to last for 90 minutes).

Regardless of the gap between expectation and reality, one hour is a very long battery life for a head shaver which you’ll only use for 5 minutes per day.

Shaving Quality

I must admit it’s better than what I had expected, considering the price point for this entire kit to be set beneath the other extravagant head shavers.

It shaves really close to the scalp, almost the result you’d get with your manual razor. But that wouldn’t be the case if you have coarse hair, for that the shaver needed to be a little bulky.

I had no issue with Type 2 hair at least, but as my barber friend has found out, the tiny foils in the sizable blades lack the agility of other powerhorse head shavers, so there’s that for you.

Efficiency of Head Shaves

Now we should address the question of the efficiency of shaving. Does it really shave in 90 seconds, like Freebird claims?

Sadly, this is where the FlexSeries shaver fails to live up to its expectations and the shaving time for a full head has taken around 8-10 minutes for me.

Ones who are more expert at head shaving can crank down the shaving time to around 5 minutes, still I’d say it’s not enough to beat the top dogs in the industry.

Also, for the tiny blades, you’ll often find unshaved hair patches despite the fine contour adaptation.

You’ll need to check and recheck to make extra passes for a smooth outcome all over the head.

Shower Shave

As you know, the waterproof aspect has prepared this shaver to be used inside the shower as effortlessly as possible.

The exfoliating head helps you to soften down the stubble and foam it up for a perfect shave.

I’d say I prefer dry shaves over wet ones for the Freebird shaver due to the frequent cleanings it needs with shaving lotion or gel and because of the missed out patches.

In dry conditions, you can easily make out where you need a couple of extra glides. But for wet shaves, you’ll need to dry out your scalp to find those patches.

But wet shaves do feel more comfortable and smoother in contrast with dry ones. So I leave this choice to you.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Another downside I found about this shaver is that the five blades don’t open at the same time, the way you can easily undo the entire blade unit of Remington or Skull Shaver devices.

Rather, each of the blades have a hair storage cap that requires individual opening and it’s often tricky to get right.

Especially if you’re shaving with gel or lotion, slippery fingers are far from being ideal to unlock these hinges and I don’t know why Freebird opted for such a design.

I guess it had to do with creating a variation, something unique compared to the other head shavers in the market.

But in my opinion, it backfired on Freebird and I don’t like this aspect one bit. Such a hectic cleaning and maintenance should never be associated with a head shaver.

How I Tested the Freebird Shaver

I’ve already mentioned some of the testing methods for the Freebird FlexSeries shaving kit.

To sum it up, yes, I utilized it first hand on my brother with his 3, 5 and 7 day stubble over scalp.

It works perfectly on a 3 day stubble and I’d advise going anywhere beyond that threshold because it starts to tug at that point.

Also, my barber friend used it in his shop on different types of hair and skin to gain an overall idea – long story short, not ideal for coarse or kinky hair.

I submerged the shaver into a bowl of water for the waterproof test, dropped it on an even surface from 0.5 meters height with the back facing down.

For Head Shaving

It’s a simple enough job and works much like any other head shaver. Simply prepare your head for the shave, turn on the shaver and glide it over your scalp in a circular motion.

Skull Shaver never discloses this info about their head shavers, so we can’t put facts into this comparison.

But from my experience, Groomie BaldiePro’s motor unit is powerful enough to chop through bushes but there’s often throttling or drop in torque, rendering it unstable at times.

For the rest of the two, the shavers relentlessly kept running at the same speed until the battery died out.

Battery Life

Out of the three, Freebird has the longest battery life according to my test, reaching one hour threshold – the only device out of the three who has this feat.

Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO holds juice for around 45-50 minutes with a full charge, I’m still pleased with this duration since the shaves are highly efficient.

Groomie BaldiePro is honestly a disappointment in the battery department and it mostly has to do with inconsistency.

I couldn’t get past the 30 minute mark with a full charge and the battery even tends to die out mid-shave or after keeping in storage for a couple of days.

As per the battery indicators, Skull Shaver and Groomie both have LCD numerics but Skull Shaver’s one is more accurate with the reading as opposed to Groomie.

Freebird hosts just two LED lights that indicate low battery, charging and full charge status. So the Skull Shaver is the best one for battery level indication in my opinion.

Traveling Efficiency

Out of the three devices of Freebird, Skull Shaver and Groomie, the latter one has a built-in travel lock you can activate using the power button.

The rest of the two don’t have this feature in the shaver but Freebird has extended the courtesy of including a travel pouch inside the package.

Sizewise, Pitbull Gold PRO has a larger housing and is a little tricky to carry around. But the lack of travel lock hasn’t been an issue due to the tactile power button having clearance from accidental turn-ons.

I’d say as an overall verdict – the Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO is the better device out of the three due to its unique design, good blades and general performance.
