Microtouch head shaver is something new that’s popped into the grooming market with an unorthodox take on handle design.
It seems nothing shy of a futuristic gadget and if I don’t tell you it’s a tool for head shaving, you may not realize it until taking a look at the foil cutters.
This device has quite a lot of perks, some of which benefit consumers with specific needs – such as sensitive scalp shaving on a regular basis.
There are some weaknesses to this tool as well, and I’m going to discuss all of these aspects here today in this Microtouch head shaver review!
“Microtouch head shaver brings a new iteration of grooming through the light & ergonomic housing design, comfortable cutting elements, quiet motor and resistance to wet cleaning. In my opinion, sensitive scalps will draw the best benefit from this unique device!”

Microtouch Head Shaver: Standout Features
Let’s discuss which of the features in this Microtouch head shaver stand out over the rest, and why I think it belongs to my top 7 list of similar devices!
Futuristic Design
As I mentioned earlier, Microtouch comes with a newly founded design choice by the brand and it sets this grooming tool aside from its competitors. Is it better in terms of looks and handling? Let’s find out!
Unmatched Aesthetics
This electric head shaver is housed in a short cylindrical handle with a round top part which mimics the bottom side hosting the cutting elements.
The color choice is quite minimal – matte ash tone encompasses almost the entirety of the head shaver.
At the top part, you’ll locate the power button at the fringe of the circle, right next to the singular LED light that informs you about different states.
On the other side, the charging port is planted at the top edge, hidden out of sight if not looked carefully enough.
You’ll locate the blades at the opposite flat end, draped in a lighter ash and the middle foil cutter has a yellow circle design to highlight the brand’s color.
Rubberized, Firm Grip
The most killer features of the Microtouch head shaver lies with its ergonomic department. There is textured rubber all around the handle to allow for firmer grips.
And also due to its size, it should fit into any size of hands perfectly without feeling like a burden at any given point.
However, while you could get away with a wrist-movement for head shaving using something like a Skull Shaver Pitbull, Microtouch demands a higher degree of movement from your hand.
But in whichever angle you’d want to hold it, this Microtouch unit will not show any sign of slipping out and that’s the sort of confidence one needs to squeeze out great head shaves!
What I Like
- Modern iteration in the housing design
- Grip levels are firm and fits every hand size
- Color choices cater to minimalist consumers
What Could be Better
- Grip pattern is preferential & can vary from person to person
Above-Average Build Quality
In terms of build quality, the Microtouch head shaver isn’t the most robustly built device. The blades are built with German titanium and they do last longer than the regular stainless steel foil blades.
While the motor and blades do last long enough to get the most value out of it, I’m more concerned about the rubber grips.
These rubber grips at the sides aren’t the most premium ones and if used roughly, these can come off pretty easily.
Particularly, the higher probability of that happening if your device is wet and you’re constantly scrubbing with it.
Or even sweaty palms can eventually see the grip tearing off but that won’t happen until you’ve used the device for at least a couple of years on a regular basis.
It’s worth noting that quite a few consumers found the Microtouch head shaver to be dead upon arrival. The brand does take care of it and sends a refund/new product based on your preference.
But it shows the lack of quality control that goes into a small brand. I hope that’s not going to happen in your case as it didn’t for mine.
What I Like
- Blades remain sharp & exceed average durability period
- Housing materials are okay-ish
- Motor doesn’t show signs of stopping
What Could be Better
- Rubber grip can come off if not used with caution
Microtouch Head Shaver: Additional Features
Now that we’ve walked through the design aspects of this Microtouch head shaver, time for us to take a deeper stroll into its additional features like cutting elements or weight class.
Very Light Weight
Since it’s a head shaver, it’s essential that the device is lighter in weight so that there’s no fatigue after a prolonged grooming session.
We’re lucky in this regard as the Microtouch head shaver weighs only 6.6 ounces, matching the weight class of the other devices at this price range.
While you may not endure exhaustion on your arm or wrist, there’s a possibility that your fingers may need a little, sustained strength due to the grip type.
Instruments like Freebird head shavers manage to walk past the issue by allowing your fingers to slip between the handle and the cutting elements, which is absent in this Microtouch unit.
Due to the weight and the built-in travel lock feature, it’s great to carry around while traveling. You need to press and hold the power button for both activating and deactivating the lock.
5 Skin-Safe Foils
There are 5 cutting elements in this affordable head shaver, one more than the regular devices of such caliber.
The 5 blades are made with stainless steel and the foils coated with a titanium hypoallergenic element.
Such a coating does help out in friction reduction with your scalp and allow for comfortable glides each time.
Also, these foils are angled in a half circle to adapt to the shape of your scalp. Additionally, the foils in the Flex Head are pressure sensitive and can stretch at extended angles to follow the contours perfectly!
You’ll notice that each of the rings apart from the central one is separated into two sections by a dividing line. This is meant to increase hair feeding efficiency, but the design in general lacks the prowess of a double-ringed foil.
These two aspects come together into the play that helps in smoother glides and reducing friction. Also, it boosts efficiency of the shaving in the sense you’re getting a higher degree of skin to foil contact.
Sharp Blades Underneath
The cutting elements are placed together in a single plate that comes off together through the creviced knob.
Upon removal, the blades are uncovered and you’ll see some refined cutting units firmly installed over the stray hair chamber.
You can remove the blades from the cutting head by rotating the central knob and it will allow you a closer inspection of what you’re dealing with.
These agile blades are good enough to trim the hair fed through the five foils. From time to time, you may want to apply lubricants to keep things up and running, more on that later.
Microtouch offers an effective cutting area of 4.9 square inches 12 square cm – above average than the 4-blade head shaving system and meant to cover off more area in a shorter duration.
Slow Motor
Some consumers appreciate that the Microtouch head shaver contains a quiet motor that doesn’t disturb your ears once it’s turned on.
But there’s a downside to this low-torqued motor – you won’t receive a very high degree of efficiency or cutting ability across different gradients of hair types.
While it can still easily and effortlessly remove fine hair without causing any tugs or pulls, coily haired consumers will most likely find unshaved patches here and there.
This will call for a higher number of scrubbing on the scalp. It’s not going to arouse any allergic reaction, but you’re going to spend longer durations in general with coarse hair.
It’s worth noting that the lower RPM in this motor power (undisclosed by the brand) helps out with sensitive scalp as it doesn’t cause any sort of discomfort to the skin!
Wireless Operations
Apart from the ergonomics, safer blades and skin-comfort foils, another standout element of Microtouch shaver is its battery unit.
A lithium-ion battery powers the entire device and it lasts for a surprising duration of over 70 minutes on a full charge!
80 minutes would be the cut-off line from where you’re going to experience the motor struggling to keep up with all the cutting actions.
The first charge takes around 3 hours and the consequent charging sessions after that are around 90 minutes.
It’s charged through the USB Type-C cable and there’s an LED indicator light to signal if the device is charging, running or has a low battery. Shame that there’s no level indicator.
Is It Really Waterproof?
Microtouch claims that their head shaver is fully waterproof – an IPX6 rated device ready for wet shaves or full washes – a feat that even the mighty Remington is reluctant to push forth!
But is it really something that resists water effectively? I have mixed answers for that. My particular unit didn’t give in to water as I washed the motor heads or used it for wet shaves.
Nonetheless, from first hand consumers, I’ve heard reports that the device struggles with heavy water flows and some even had their shaver die on them – which is scary to say the least.
In my opinion, avoid full wet shaves if possible and wash the blades and the hair chamber only. Apply shaving lotion to reduce friction if you must, but don’t take it inside the full flow of a shower.
What I Like
- Easy to maneuver, motor doesn’t vibrate too much
- 5 skin safe foils adapt to scalp with the flex heads
- Long battery life makes it travel-friendly
What Could be Better
- Water resistance isn’t up to the mark
My Experience with Microtouch Head Shaver
This time round, I’m going to share my personal experience using the Microtouch head shaver. Don’t worry, I didn’t shave off all of my hair, my brother has always been the victim of my grooming expeditions.
Shaving Quality
The quality of shaving with Microtouch isn’t something exceptional if you look at the shaving outcomes.
I mean, it does well for what it’s worth and you can even feel the smoothness of the till a couple of hours after the session.
But the quality fails to meet something like a BaBylissPRO FoilFX probably because of the lack of motor power like the beast I just mentioned.
Still, I’d say I’m satisfied with the results because the Microtouch head shaver isn’t something you’d buy for shaving closeness, rather for the comfort of it.
Skin Comfort
The comfort over skin is the most crucial aspect of the Microtouch head shaver that I realized during my tests.
It never feels like dragging across the skin, all credit is due to the foil elements and the power of the motor that’s so comfortable despite being of such low torque.
While there are electric shavers dedicated to sensitive skins, I’d say Microtouch is the head shaver rendition of similar grooming goals.
So, if your scalp gets red easily with any other shaver – be that manual or electric – Microtouch should be the most ideal solution for you!
Cutting Efficiency
This is the point where I’ll have to call out Microtouch for not making the head shaver efficient enough for a wide array of consumers to make the best out of it.
It’s not great to shave over kinky or coily hair, that much you already know. As per finer hair, you’re still going to need to add a couple extra glides to get a smoother result.
A double-edged sword really – to gain trust on sensitive scalp has led to the compromise of raw power.
So in the end, Microtouch remains a head shaver that specializes in skin comfort at the cost of efficiency – and if I had a sensitive scalp which I shave regularly – I’d take this bargain.
Versatility
I’ll have to admit that the Microtouch razor can be versatile if you want it to be. By versatile, I mean you’re free to shave your face should you have finer facial hair.
Otherwise, leave it to something like the Andis TS-1 17235 Pro Foil shaver which can shave face as well as head equally – but not adept at contour adaptation.
If you are someone who defines versatility with the number of attachment heads or accessories a head shaver brings to you, then Microtouch is definitely going to disappoint you.
In that case, FlexSeries Freebird would be your ideal choice as it comes with a trimmer head, a nose shaver and tons of other stuff to take care of almost every grooming need a man could have!
Shower Shaving
In case of shower shaving, my Microtouch didn’t run into any trouble as my brother completed an entire grooming session with the shower water running on.
Since it’s IPX6 rated, I can at least vouch for a full rinse after each usage. But it’s not ideal to pair up with shaving foam as the blades simply get clogged up and the feeble motor fails to power through that.
As I said earlier, just apply some shaving lotion because it helps out in the long run. It keeps the skin moisturized and allows the foils to glide past almost effortlessly.
In my opinion, that’s the most you should get close to wet shaving because other consumers found its water resistance under running shower not to be up to the mark.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Cleaning the Microtouch head razor is simple enough. You can easily pry open the cutting plate and rinse it under water.
The gap between the plate and the motor heads is the chamber that holds all of your stray hair. If you don’t want to get water involved, it’s cleanable with the brush they provided in the box.
In terms of maintenance, apply a few drops of lubricant into the cutting blades as well as the motor heads that pop out. Mop up the excess to keep things neat.
Also, if you wash the entire handle of this device, make sure to mop the rubber portions up gently. Roughly scrubbing over can tear apart the gripping bits and that’s something none of us would want.
How I Tested the Microtouch Head Shaver?
I tested the Microtouch razor on my brother’s scalp in an assessment routine that elapsed around two weeks of time.
During this phase, I tried out the shaver on his head by myself, searched for the maximum cutting length (which would be 3 days of stubble at maximum) and the overall feel to it.
Then I let him do it on his own while I paid close inspection. The degree of comfort he felt, the fatigue of the fingers, the cutting efficiency and every other aspect I discussed are highly influenced by these tests.
Also, I tried harshly scrubbing over the rubber grips at the end to see if it’s really that vulnerable. The rubber retained no damage and I can conclude that the tear may occur after a certain amount of usage and time, not before that.
What I Like
- Highly comfortable on sensitive skin
- Versatile since it can shave both face & head
- Easy cleaning and maintenance
What Could be Better
- Not meant for coarse or coily hair
Who is the Microtouch Head Shaver For?
I’ve given you bits of information about whom this head shaver is for and whom it’s not. You already know, Microtouch is dedicated to sensitive scalp and there couldn’t have been anything better at such a price range.
The particular consumer group could be elderly men who can’t tolerate the harsher cutting actions by other head shavers.
Since it’s a rotary shaver, you can imagine the general comfort such devices provide to the skin, then top that off with Microtouch shaver’s foil and motor torque.
Another consumer group would be men who shave their head less frequently, like twice a week. If your hair is not dense or highly textured, you can easily get away with such a head grooming routine!
About Microtouch
Microtouch is actually a really old brand – founded back in 2003. They do live up to the brand’s motto of providing a comfortable and easygoing grooming experience in a unique way.
This Microtouch head shaver is really something different as opposed to the many other similar products I’ve personally handled back in the day.
Additionally, the brand produces four other specialized grooming devices which are almost equally unorthodox in their design and performance.
The Chinese brand indeed offers better value for money with their highly affordable tools and I’m going to buy more from them after my experience with their head shaver!
Microtouch vs Wyklaus: Is More Blades Better for Head Shaving?
Feature/Quality | Microtouch | Wyklaus |
---|---|---|

Blade Material | Stainless Steel | Stainless Steel |
Foil Coating | Titanium | None |
Travel Lock | Yes | Yes |
Contour Adaptation | Independent Flex Head | 7-D Floating Head |

As a competitor for the Microtouch head shaver, Wyklaus head shaver has turned around a lot of heads with its huge 7-foil design and all the additional accessories it offers within a limited price!
Therefore, we must check out if Wyklaus has really beaten Microtouch in every category, or is there still a fight still left in the cylindrical head shaver?
Shaving Efficiency: Microtouch has a 5 cutter design whereas Wyklaus brings forth a device with 7 cutters. In hindsight, the numbers may give Wyklaus the advantage, but is it realistic?
In reality, the most ideal blade count for head shavers is actually 4. Anything over that tends to bottleneck the device and in turn decreases efficiency. But in return, you’ll get the comfort of shaving and a higher contour adaptation.
Out of these two, Wyklaus head shaver turns out to be the more efficient one and it has to do with the motor power, not the 7 heads. It simply outperforms Microtouch by shaving heads faster, and therefore seizes the advantage.
Skin Comfort: When it comes to skin comfort, it all has to do with the foil types and motor power. On one hand, Microtouch lost out on efficiency largely due to the power of the motor.
But on the other hand, the titanium-coated foils are hypoallergenic as opposed to the generic foils of Wyklaus. Such a motor and foil combination comes together to present Microsoft as the gentler head shaver of the two!
LED Display: Wyklaus is the clear winner here as the LED display is a numeric battery level reader, low-battery indicator and maintenance warning-giver.
Microtouch on the other hand hosts just an LED light to dispense a handful of signals, so the verdict leans toward Wyklaus here.
Accessories: Finally, in the battle of accessories, Microtouch doesn’t really bring anything to the table except for the cleaning brush and charging adapter.
Wyklaus however has a complete arsenal of replaceable trimmer head, cleaning brush, nose hair trimmer and even a sideburn trimmer!
Additionally, the trimmer is backed up by 3 guide combs for different length settings, reducing the need to own separate devices for your beard maintenance.
Verdict: The verdict is simple – pick the Microtouch head shaver only if you have a sensitive scalp as it’s proven to be the more comfortable device vs Wyklaus.
And for any other case, be that regular, faster head shaving or getting the better value out of money with the additional grooming accessories, Wyklaus head shaver is your clear victor!
FAQ
I’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the Microtouch head shaver by its potential/current consumers to elucidate further on this device!
Q: How often should the blades in a Microtouch head shaver be replaced?
Ans: It actually depends on how regularly you use the Microtouch head shaver for your grooming duties and what those duties are. Those who use it every other day for both head and facial shaving end up replacing the blades once every 3 to 6 months. However, this duration can be extended with proper maintenance and if the grooming sessions are less frequent or intense.
Q: Is there a warranty on the Microtouch Head Shaver?
Ans: Yes, there generally is a one-year official warranty on Microtouch head shavers, although I’d recommend you to check with your vendor to see if they’re authorized. In case they are, you have the option to buy additional warranty periods up to 3 years from the brand.
Q: What should I do if the Microtouch shaver pulls or snags?
Ans: Generally tugs or pulls occur when your Microtouch shaver blades have been dulled out. Otherwise, you should check for clogs or dirt underneath the blades and clean those out. Lubricate the motor and blades. Fully charge the device and check if it still snags. If it does, then you’re going to have to replace the blades.
Final Thoughts
In my Microtouch head shaver review, I’ve uncovered some remarkable features of this out of the ordinary device that’s capable of serving sensitive skin in the right manner.
On top of that, the bitter truths about this unit were also learned so that you can be prepared beforehand and expect what exactly to face upon the purchase.
Also, do consider the price point before reaching a verdict since the premium head shavers of present time cost more than twice as much as Microtouch head razor.
I believe it outperforms its price point to the point you’ll actually believe that your money’s been worth spending on something that consistently and comfortably delivers!
